Deerskin is one of the toughest leathers yet lightweight, soft and supple as well as highly breathable and not damaged by water. Those with leather laces contain natural oils that cause laces to untie easily. To prevent this firstly adjust the laces to a comfortable fit whilst wearing, then soak the bow (not the whole shoe) in water to shrink the laces slightly, and allow the bow to air-dry naturally away from direct heat. You could also apply a small drop of superglue underneath the bow's knot for added reassurance. Those with a fringe can be maintained straight and tidy. Lay the moccasin down on a flat surface and place a cotton towel underneath the area to be straightened. Fold part of the towel on top of the fringe and start to iron (using a no stream setting) in a downward motion. Allow to air-dry naturally in an upright position away from direct heat. Apply water and stain protector before wearing and after each clean, avoiding oil-based products as this will clog the pores and beware of protectors that could discolour. For regular cleaning use a soft dry cloth or if dampened, stuff moccasin with some tissue paper in the toe area to retain shape and air-dry naturally away from direct heat.
