Birkenstock use a synthetic material EVA that is non-toxic. It is lightweight, flexible with good shock-absorbency and stress-crack resilience. It is also resistant to water, oil and grease and has little or no odour. For cleaning regularly wipe with a soft cloth or brush dampened in cool water using mild detergent. Refer to manufacturer's care instructions for a machine washable option. Never use hot water as EVA can shrink at high temperatures. Do not dry clean. Allow to air-dry slowly away from direct heat. Due to the material properties and the moulding process slight variations in sizing may occur towards half a size smaller in the following: Energy-Betula, Gizah, Madrid, Arizona; and Rio-Kids range.
Your toes and heel should not touch the rim of your Sandal while standing in them. The extra room is needed to perform the natural rolling motion of the foot without restrictions - just as if you were barefoot. Birkenstocks are designed to be roomy. When you first try your Sandal they might feel big. Most people are fine with a regular fitting, but if your foot moves side to side when you walk and adjusting the strap does not help, a narrow fitting may be more suitable. This is a regular fit.
