Natural leather has an untreated surface with a unique quality as nature intended. The leather used for Birkenstock is very high-quality, thick yet very supple. Apply a water and stain protector before wearing and after each clean. For cleaning regularly use a soft dry cloth or if dampened allow leather to air-dry naturally away from direct heat. The cork footbeds come with a light coating of sealant to prevent them from drying out. When the cork no longer looks shiny apply a thin coat of cork sealant to prolong the life of your Birkenstocks.
Slip the Removable Insole from the shoe. To check whether your shoe is the correct length and width, stand on the footbed and inspect the fit. Toes should not hang over the edge and the arches should follow the contours of your feet, as described above. Reinsert the footbed into the shoe. The extra room is needed to perform the natural rolling motion of the foot without restrictions - just as if you were barefoot. There is more sizing information, including a conversion chart, here.
